We Are More Than Snapchat And Selfies

We are more than snapchat and selfies.

We have the power to change how we are perceived in the minds of adults. It is amazing what we can do through the power of social media, and how far our reach can go. When we divert that power from just trivial matters, we can expose the beauty of social media and how it connects us in some way or another. I begin chapter one of my book with the title, “We Are More Than Snapchat and Selfies.” In that chapter, I elaborate on how the power of the message can reach the masses within an instant; a screenshot, a hashtag, a link can spread like wildfire and light up the country. I mention the students from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida, and how their outcry for stricter gun laws, gained national attention and sparked national school walkouts across the country. I got involved when my school participated! Through the power of social media… WE GOT THE MESSAGE!

What’s so remarkable about the students from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school shooting is that they did not let their tragedy be remembered as just a hashtag, they did not let their tragedy fall by the waste side and be forgotten, nor did they fall into the category of being a hopeless survivor, instead, they let their voices ring throughout the nation and they turned up the power of social media to transmit their message. Their courage and willingness to be heard inspired me to write this book. I believe that people are always going to have something to say, now whether they want to be heard or not, is something entirely different. Closed mouths don’t get fed, and closed mouths suffer in silence. Never shy away from an opportunity to be heard, because I guarantee there are people out there that will listen. #wearemorethansnapchatandselfies #genz #generationz
