"You don’t think it could happen here"

Three fatal mass shootings this week alone-the latest being TODAY, August 3, 2019 in a Walmart and a surrounding mall in El Paso Texas. Are you kidding me?!

As I wrote in my book Generation Z The Sleeping Giant Awakens We Have The Power, “Evil has no boundaries and it transcends color lines. And, again, if it shouldn’t happen ‘here,’ where should it happen that it’s deemed acceptable?” Today we mourn the loss of lives as a result of ANOTHER SENSELESS MASS SHOOTING.The struggle with the National Rifle Association (NRA), is REAL.

We must continue to fight for sensible gun control laws. How many more lives need to be lost? How many more times do friends and families have to go through the cycle of mourning and eventually accepting the fact they lost a loved one due to a tragedy that never should’ve happened, but did. The everyday horror that a gun could be aimed at your head, at any moment, and at any place in time, puts people on edge. It baffles me when I hear some say voting won’t make a difference. If we do not put in legislators that promote sensible gun control laws, the status quo will remain the same. And at the next news conference, we will hear the familiar quote, “I didn’t think it could happen here.”

Mass shootings are and have been a reoccurring and problematic issue of our time that has caused tremendous heartache and devastation in our country. But I believe that enough like-minded people can make a difference. I’m thinking about planning a voter registration event for young people who want to make a difference in their community. You can list your ideas in the comment section of this blog post below or you can contact me through my instagram @genwehavethepower and TOGETHER we can make a difference ! #WeAreGenZ
